About

The Origin Story

Art Explorers Oban started the summer of 2018.  Two teacher friends decided to organise 2 weeks of summer art camp at the Rockfield Centre in Oban.  It was very successful and has continued with afterschool clubs & workshops ever since.  The Happy Wee Health Club offered space for Art Explorers to call home in November 2024 and the Art Room opened.

I am Elisabeth and the main organiser for Art Explorers.

I grew up in a time and a house where we made things. My Mom taught me  to sew;  my brother learned to build. We lived on a farm, raised animals and grew vegetables. My Dad built us treehouses and fixed broken things.  We played outside and were resourceful.  We weren’t allowed to watch much t.v. & screens weren’t a thing.  I read all the time.

All of these skills made me who I am and ignited my love for craft. This passion for making is something I like to share with others.

Taking time to enjoy using new materials, to see what they do, allows for skills to grow and thus confidence.

Creativity is like a muscle, the more you practice, the stronger is it is.  Process art is about the mess, the imagination, the creation of something.  The final product is a happy ending but not the most important.

Art Explorers Oban is ever evolving with programs for folks of all ages.

Come to the Art Room to take a break from screens, chat, listen to music, take creative chances, make mistakes, get messy but overall, explore and learn.
