Clubs & Activities for Kids

After School Clubs

The After School clubs meet once a week during the school term in the Art Room upstairs at the Happy Wee Health Club.

There are several days and times available.

Each week we explore techniques and tools that help kids experience a variety of mediums.

We do this through a taught project that has a focus on the elements of art and most projects are finished within the time.

Projects are inspired by a variety of art types  and  artists to create an awareness of all the wonderful visual arts out there.

Kids learn many skills that serve them well into the future regardless of who they become.

MakerSpace

MakerSpace is open Art Room time and is great for kids who just want to come have open ended time for tinkering or making.

Materials are provided with an invitation to create or explore using different things each week.

The emphasis is more about the process with the final product being a happy result.

Some weeks have more of a STEM theme where we add the A for art to make it STEAM.

This promotes the engineering design process allowing kids to see that art is part of so many different careers.

MakerSpace is a shorter time than the After School Club and without a direct lesson.

Sew Fun Club

Sew Fun meets once a week during the school term for tweens and teens (ages 10+).

It is for learning beginning hand sewing techniques to make fun, modern projects, sometimes using upcycled materials.  As the Art Room has one newly added machine to share, we can now work towards earning a Sewing Machine Driver’s License.  This is to teach about how to use a machine and young sewists can bring their own in.

Some of the materials are provided for hand sewing but larger pieces of fabric will need to be brought in by participants.

Tween & Teen
Art & Junk Journal Club

Weekly self directed open session of 90 minutes art room time to explore process art and a variety of techniques and mediums to create art journals. Each week will have a theme with materials & supervision provided to allow kids to make & create at their own pace without a direct instruction lesson. Explore collage, painting, drawing, and printing. Perfect for creating unique, individual pieces of work. For kids ages 10 and older.

Frequently Asked Questions

Children must have completed P1 to come to Art Explorer activities unattended.

There is a maximum of 12 children at each session.

Elisabeth Stevenson is the owner of Art Explorers Oban and leads the sessions.  She is registered with the GTC and has been a primary school teacher for 25 years.

All programs that run during the school year have been broken down into blocks of 6 to 8 weeks or a term session.  A term fee is charged once at the start of the block of sessions and is the sum total of what each class session would cost if attended one at a time.

A subscription is a monthly fee that is charged at the start of each month.  It is the sum total divided across the months that the term block of sessions is offered.  It divides the total sum cost of the term into more manageable amounts.  If a child signs up after the beginning of the month, the monthly subscription is adjusted to accommodate the classes still in the term.

Art Explorers is not registered with the Care Inspectorate.  This is because it is not childcare.  It is an activity club or school holiday activity.  No meals or snacks are provided.  Children should be able to participate independently and not need additional personal care.  A child who has additional support needs must be accompanied by a carer when attending Art Explorer activities.  Art Explorers Oban is insured and the leaders have up to date PVG certificates and first aid training.
